Connecting Your Social Accounts to Herald
Herald publishes to your Instagram, Facebook Page, and LinkedIn on your behalf. You connect each account once; Herald stores the authorization securely (encrypted) and never sees or stores your password.
You do NOT create any developer apps. Unlike setting up the platform APIs yourself, connecting to Herald is just: log in → choose the network → authorize on the platform → done. The one-time developer setup is handled by whoever operates your Herald instance, not by you.
What you need
- An Instagram Business or Creator account (not a Personal account).
- To switch: Instagram app → Settings → Account type and tools → Switch to professional account → choose Business or Creator. It's free and reversible.
- You must be logged in to that Instagram account in the browser you'll use.
How to connect
- In the Herald dashboard, open Accounts → Connect Instagram.
- You'll be sent to Instagram's login/authorization screen.
- Review the permissions (Herald asks to read basic profile info and publish content on your behalf) and tap Allow.
- You're returned to Herald — your Instagram account now shows as Connected.
If it doesn't work
- "Personal accounts can't be connected" — your account is still Personal; switch it to Business/Creator (above) and retry.
- You can disconnect anytime from Accounts, which revokes Herald's access.
Facebook Page
What you need
- A Facebook Page you administer, and be logged in to Facebook in your browser.
How to connect
- In the Herald dashboard, open Accounts → Connect Facebook Page.
- You'll be sent to Facebook's authorization screen.
- Review the permissions (list and publish to Pages you manage) and click Allow.
- You're returned to Herald — your Page now shows as Connected. Herald posts only to that Page.
Facebook Page posts can be text-only or with an image. Instagram posts always require an image.
What you need
- A LinkedIn Company Page and you must be an Administrator of it (personal-profile-only posting is not supported).
- Be logged in to LinkedIn in your browser.
How to connect
- In the Herald dashboard, open Accounts → Connect LinkedIn.
- You'll be sent to LinkedIn's authorization screen.
- Review the permissions (manage your organization's page / post on its behalf) and click Allow.
- LinkedIn grants access to all Pages you administer at once — it won't ask you to pick one here.
- Back in Herald, you'll see the Page(s) you administer — choose which one(s) to publish through Herald.
Notes
- Herald acts only on the Page(s) you select.
- LinkedIn access is time-limited; if it expires, Herald will prompt you to reconnect — just repeat the steps.
- You can disconnect anytime from Accounts.
What Herald does with the connection
- Stores your platform authorization encrypted; it is never shown or exported.
- Publishes only what you ask it to, to the account(s) you connected.
- Reports back the live link to each post.
- A failure on one network never affects the others.
